Julie London

JulieJulie London (nee Peck) was an American actress and a singer whose career spanned over 40 years. London, a torch singer loved for her smooth, mellow vocals and languid contralto voice was a recording artist on more than thirty albums of standards and jazz between 1955 and 1969. The song she sang on "Cry me a river" the song she introduced on her debut album, was accepted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2001. London was nominated in 1974 for the Golden Globe Award as a actress for her role in Emergency! of Dixie McCall. Born in Santa Rosa, California, to vaudevillian parents, London was discovered while working as an elevator operator in downtown Los Angeles, and she began her acting career. London's 35-year career in acting began on film in 1944 which included roles for female leads in numerous westerns. She also starred alongside Rock Hudson in The Fat Man (1951) and with Robert Taylor and John Cassavetes in Saddle the Wind (1958), with Gary Cooper in Man of the West (1958) and with Robert Mitchum in The Wonderful Country (1959). In the mid-1950s, she signed a recording deal with Liberty Records, marking the beginning of her professional musical career. In 1969 she released her last studio album. However, she continued to be a star in television's Emergency show as Dixie McCall, a female nurse. (1972-1979) during which she appeared alongside her husband Bobby Troup. Jack Webb produced the show.
